The Ambassador of the Russian Federation, H.E Vladen Semivolos, on Wednesday met with Speaker of the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among.

During the meeting at Parliament, the two sides exchanged views on future areas of bilateral and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Speaker Among expressed pleasure in the existing “very strong friendship between Uganda and Russia.”

“Earlier I met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Uganda H.E Vladen Semivolos in my office. Parliament will always support engagements of mutual benefit to our people and support friendships that respect our sovereignty, and the cultural norms of our people,” Among wrote on Twitter.

In a tweet, the Russian Embassy in Uganda said the two parties concentrated on “practical issues of bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.”

It is also reported that during the meeting, Ambassador Vladlen emphasised the development of economic co-operation between the two countries as a priority.

Last year, Ambassador Vladlen held a meeting with Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) CEO, Lilly Ajarova where they discussed enhancing cooperation to attract more tourists from Russia.

During the meeting, the most prominent developments in the tourism sector in Uganda were reviewed in addition to the efforts made by UTB and Ugandan state to push more incoming tourist movement to the country from various tourist markets, including the Russian market.

They also reviewed the noticeable growth witnessed by the volume of demand for the Ugandan tourist destination from international markets in general, and the remarkable increase in the tourist movement coming to Uganda from Russia.
