The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among has Saturday commissioned the works for construction of the Acomai irrigation scheme in the eatern Uganda district of Bukedea.

Among who is also the area woman Member of Parliament, said she was excited that the long sought-for dream is enroute to becoming a reality.

“This morning, I am more than excited to be standing here with the assurance that the Acomai Irrigation Scheme will soon be a reality. My people here know how long this journey has been and how much we need this Project,” said Among.

She explained that from 2016 when she first got elected as a Member of Parliament, the project is one of those things that the people of Bukedea placed before her as an action point.

“Working together with my fellow leaders, we pushed the barriers and knocked on every day to ensure that the dreams and aspirations of our people come to pass. Today, I stand here as a proud daughter of Bukedea. Proud because one of our dreams is on its way to reality,” says Among.

The project will be constructed by Dott Services Limited who have just completed the construction of the multi-billion Doho II project that has changed the lives of people in Butaleja district.

It also comes with associated fringe benefits of roads and boreholes all for socio-economic transformation.

The 1000-hectare project according to the deputy speaker, will among others help to deal with floods that affect people in the area.

Over the years, the rest of the country has heard about floods and drought sometimes both hitting different parts of the District at ago. The livelihood of our people has been greatly hindered and we have had to watch in pain, sometimes doing the little we can to support our people to live.
