Senior Presidential Advisor on Media and Public Relations, John Nagenda is dead.

News of his passing has been announced by Milly Babalanda, the Minister for Presidency, on Saturday afternoon.

According to Babalanda, Nagenda died from Medipal Hospital in Kampala. She did not delve into further details about the cause of his death.

“I regret to announce the passing on of Senior Presidential Advisor on Media Matters, Mzee John Nagenda, who has passed on at Medipal in Kampala,” announced Babalanda. “He was unique, principled and knowledgeable. His services will be dearly missed.”

Nagenda worked with President Yoweri Museveni for over two decades. The sports aficionado, particularly of tennis and cricket, was also a gifted writer and brilliant mind with a tendency to speak his mind.

Born on April 25, 1938, Nagenda was cricketer who played one One Day International in the 1975 World Cup for East Africa. He appeared in one first-class cricket match in England in 1975, and played cricket for Uganda.

As a writer of fiction and poetry in the 1960s, he is regarded as having been one of the pioneers of writing in East Africa.
