The UPDF Commander of land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has Tuesday afternoon announced that he is retiring from the army after 28 years of service.

Using his Twitter handle, Muhoozi who is also son to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, said together with his soldiers they “have achieved so much.”

“After 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world, I am happy to announce my retirement. Me and my soldiers have achieved so much! I have only love and respect for all those great men and women that achieve greatness for Uganda everyday,” reads Muhoozi’s tweet.

In 2017 Muhoozi was appointed Presidential Adviser, fueling speculations he is being prepared for the presidency. He was reappointed as the Commander of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) in December 2020. Lt. Gen. Muhoozi served in the same position from 2008 to 2017.
