Just like the Central Government, Busoga Kingdom has adopted a UgX55.423.400.000 billion budget for the Financial Year 2022/2023.

Laying the budget estimates for the new financial year before the Busoga Lukiiko (Legislature) on Friday presided over by the Speaker, Owek. George William Wanume Mutyabule who was flanked by his Deputy, Owek.Florence Biruma, State Minister of Finance, Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Owek. Ivan Kiirya assured the attentive members both in the hall and gallery that the tenability of the budget is anchored on every stakeholder’s commitment to supporting the institution.

“As the finance ministry,we have done our part in line with what is annually required of us. However, realizing its practicability is our responsibility jointly”, he argued noting that it’s high time all concerned got involved in attaining the same. He further revealed that together with his colleague in the Ministry, Owek. Solomon Robert Wamono and technical officers are optimistic that realizing this budget will be each and everyone’s priority for Busoga to regain it’s real glory.

The Kingdom Premier, Owek. Dr. Joseph Muvawala flanked by his 1st Deputy, Owek. Prof. Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira assured the Lukiiko that this year’s budget is tenable provided the approach is robust.

“You all realize that the budget has been developed based on what we have among others as an institution. We must first of all capitalize on what is within our midst before seeking donor or government support since the Kingdom is endowed naturally”, a jovial Premier said revealing that all chiefdoms are bound to benefit from the same since the sharing formula will involve percentages based on what each delivers to the center at the headquarters.

Under the theme “Resource Mobilization and Functional Systems in Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga”, the budget speech lays emphasis on following the Kingdom’s policies, 10 year strategic plan among others as the only way out to bring in the much needed revenue to be able to realize the budget.

The projected revenue sources for the FY2022/2023 include leases, royalties, ebyaiffe, donations,ground rent, partnerships, Okukiika Embuga, sale of Kingdom items like certificates, maps, portraits.

According to the released estimates, Health took a lion’s share of UgX6.1 billion followed by Education with UgX5.058 billion. Works and Transport UgX4 billion, Tourism UgX3.5 billion, Trade and Cooperative UgX3.1 billion, Water and Environment UgX3 billion, Culture UgX2.7 billion. Others are Agriculture UgX3.5 billion, Gender and Women UgX1.5 billion, Youth and ICT UgX1.02 billion, Information and Mobilization UgX1.1 billion, Kyabazinga Affairs UgX3.4billion, Justice and Constitutional Affairs UgX832m, Premier’s office UgX3.8 billion, Foreign Affairs UgX1.2 billion, Lands and Ebyaiffe UgX708m, Protocol and Security UgX1.2 billion, Busoga Lukiiko UgX303m, Permanent Secretary’s Office UgX3.015 billion, Finance and Economic Development UgX4.351 billion.

The session was attended by Kingdom Ministers, Royal Chiefs, Political and Religious leaders, development partners,well-wishers and other stakeholders
