As the election for Uganda’s representatives in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) nears, some of the aspirants have eaten big in the latest appointments confirmed by Cabinet.

Among these is former Ngora District Woman Member of Parliament, Jaquiline Amongin who lost her seat in the 2021 elections while vying to serve her third term in Parliament. She has now been posted to Washington DC as the country’s Ambassador.

Another aspirant, Agaba Gilbert who has been in tax body, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) for a number of years but lost to Minister David Bahati in Ndorwa West constituency in the just concluded elections is now a Board Member, Bank of Uganda.

Others who have been appointed include Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi who has been posted to Addis Ababa as Uganda’s Ambassador and Fred Mukasa Mbidde who is now Uganda’s Ambassador in Beijing.

These appointments come just two weeks after Veronica Kadogo another EALA aspirant was appointed on the Board of Uganda Railways Corporation.

The names of the appointees were considered and passed during the Monday Cabinet meeting reportedly chaired by Gen Yoweri Museveni.

The EALA election process commences on September 19, 2022, with nominations. The tenure of the current EALA members ends on December 17, 2022.
