A police officer has been shot dead in Kabale Municipality. Caroline Komuhangi, who was attached to the Filed Force Unit (FFU) was shot dead at 9:00 am on Sunday by her ex-husband Denis Arineitwe, a tailor in Kabale Town.

Arineitwe, a resident of Nyakahanga village, in Rukungiri district was married to Komuhangi, a resident of Sheema District for about one and a half years.

However, according to a police officer who preferred anonymity, their marriage went sour when Komuhangi reportedly accused Arineitwe of having an affair with a student of Kabale University.

Komuhangi also accused Arineitwe of taking her Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card.

Komuhangi reported the matter to Kabale Police Station and Arineitwe was arrested and ordered to return the ATM card to Komuhangi.

According to the police source, the couple later separated. He adds that on Sunday Arineitwe gained access to the Police Barracks and entered the uniport where Komuhangi was and a fight ensued.

He explains that as Komuhangi was trying to run away, Arineitwe shot her three times.

Arineitwe, after the incident also attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself.

Richard Twesigwomwe, a friend of the couple says that Arineitwe was angry after the separation and promised to revenge.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that Komuhangi was shot in the back and shoulder.

Maate says that Arineitwe is also being admitted with injuries on the nose and head.

According to Maate a police officer whose identities he declined to reveal has been arrested after attempting to shoot Arineitwe in the hospital to revenge Komuhangi’s death.
