Infront of over 1000 fans at the Officer’s mess Playgrounds in Makindye, Katwe United smashed PCCP FC to go a point away from being promoted to the Kampala Regional League.
In a 1-0 scoreline,Katwe United’s Skipper Ashraf Zizinga converted from the spot in 31st minute after Ronald Kyaligonza was brought down in the forbidden area by PCCP FC’s Goalkeeper.
Katwe United were very lucky to take all three points in an end to end encounter as team playmaker and humble gombanian Allan Bukenya was sent for an early shower after retaliating with 10 minutes to play.
Resilient PCCP FC matched pound to pound with the hosts and will blame themselves for not converting any from the 8 chances created with team playmaker Kuben leading troops.
The win pushes Katwe United 9 points ahead of second placed Terranova Soccer Academy with three more matches to play in the 2022/23 Makindye Fourth Division Football League.
Mathematically, The ‘Tuli Banyiivu’ side will only need a point from the available 9 to storm Regional League Football particularly Kampala in the next Football Season.
After the game,Katwe United Team Head Coach Joseph Ssekitoleko took time and assured promotion to the present mammoth crowd that included Team Chairman and Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana.
“This is for all of us,we have strived to be here and we can’t look back whatever comes our way,we are playing regional league next season,” said determined Joseph Ssekitoleko who formerly played for the club.
Established in mid 2000s, Katwe United played in the 2019/20 FUFA Big League season but due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the club was sportingly relegated to the Kampala Regional League but while there they dropped to Fourth Division Football after a turnover in administrative powers.
After 27 games, Katwe United has only lost once, drawn seven plus 19 wins to currently sit top of the table forging their way back to third division football in Uganda.
