A father and her four-year old daughter have perished in a car accident in Mabira along Kampala-Jinja highway, police say.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, says the accident that occured on January 1 at Najjembe near Najjembe Trading Centre, involved two motor vehicles reg no. UAL 958Q Toyota Corona Premio and Motor vehicle reg. no. UAZ 558P UAL 793X Man trailer.

The driver of Toyota Corona Premio also died on spot and six people were seriously injured.

“The deceased have been identified as Kalema Yunus a male adult aged 31 years and a resident of Walusubi trading centre in Mukono district who was driving the Premio, Lutwama Rajab aged 48 yrs, resident of Walusubi Mukono who was a passenger in the premio and a yet to be inidentified female juvenile aged 4 yrs who was also a passenger in Premio,” says Nampiima.

“Three female adults and one male adult yet to be identified while two Juveniles aged 13 years and 7 years have been identified as children of Lutwama Rajab, the deceased,” she adds.

It is alleged that Motor vehicle reg. no. UAL 958Q Toyota corona premio that was being driven by Kalema Yunus from Jinja to Kampala side, lost control and crossed the lane to the opposite side and rammed into motor vehicle reg. no. UAZ 558P/UAL 793X trailer that was being driven by one Takwana Karim aged 57 years from Kampala to Jinja.

Police say the injured victims were rushed to Mulago National Referral hospital for further medical attention while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
