President Yoweri Museveni has on Tuesday morning left for Nairobi Kenya to attend the inauguration of the country’s President-elect, William Ruto, at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani later this afternoon.

“I have this morning departed for Nairobi, Kenya to witness the inauguration of H.E William Ruto as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” Museveni wrote on Twitter.

“We shall continue to foster our good relations with Kenya and the other EAC countries for the prosperity of our people,” he added.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes in the August 9 presidential elections beating closest rival Raila Odinga who got 6,942,930 votes.

President Museveni was among the first African leaders to congratulate Ruto upon his victory. Museveni reached Ruto by phone call immediately after being declared Victor by electoral body before congratulating him on social media. The President did the same even when Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s victory.

At the event, Museveni welcomed Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto whom he described as ‘a very committed East African’ for working with the Equity Bank to secure funding for the project.

On his part, Ruto said he was representing East Africans living in Kenya as a demonstration of brotherhood of East African nations.

Meanwhile, various leaders from Africa and around the world continue to arrive in Kenya for today’s inauguration. These include Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Emerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, Denis Sassou-Nguesso of the Republic of Congo, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique and Felix Tshisekedi of DRC.
