Journalist Simon Muyanga Lutaaya

Senior Journalist, Sir Simon Muyanga Lutaaya, is the new spokesperson of The MK Avengers, one of the groups under the MK Movement.

The MK Movement is a group of Ugandans both within and out of the country laying the groundwork for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to become the next President of Uganda. Other groups are the MK Army, Team Chairman, Revolutionary Guards and Original Army.

Muyanga’s appointment has been announced by the group’s leader Michael Katungi, who is also in charge of external affairs in the MK Movement.

“Congratulations on your appointment as Head Communications MK Avengers. Well deserved,” Katungi announced.

On May 5, Katungi announced that the opposition FDC strongman had joined his Avengers describing the move as “an addition.”

“Welcome to the MK Movement Comrade Muyanga Lutaaya from FDC, a great addition to our cause and trajectory towards achieving social economic transformation of the country,” noted Katungi.

A couple of days after, Muyanga Lutaaya joined the Avengers in his native Subregion Busoga, particularly in Namutumba District to launch structures.

On Thursday during his daily show on BaBa Television, the experienced journalist couldn’t hide his love and desire to have Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba lead Uganda after his father, Gen Yoweri Museveni.

“I support Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba 100%. He must take a role in the management and politics of this country. Muhoozi, having become a General and spending all this time in the army as a Commander, what else is left for him to do? Anybody who judges Gen Kainerugaba in the lens of his father is an idiot. He should be judged as a Ugandan, as a General, as a human being with capacity to do better than his father,” Muyanga said.

“I have hope that from what we have observed, Gen Kainerugaba can do extremely better than his father. Why? Because they share different orientations, their backgrounds are different and the times are different. It is easy for me to criticize President Kaguta Museveni because I have seen what he has done, but it will be unfair for me to oppose Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba because I am yet to see what he can do.”

“The argument that we should not support Gen Kainerugaba because he is President Museveni’s son does not hold. Why? Because it will not be new, it happens elsewhere – in the U.S, Kenya and here in Parliament. Why should it only be used against Gen Kainerugaba? He has also proved unparalleled love for a better Uganda – his comments on the state of roads in Kampala and extravagance by ministers, speak to this reality,” he added.

Muyanga Lutaaya, a renowned member of opposition political party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), is a known critic of the Museveni administration and has stood twice for election as Member of Parliament in Kaliro, but with no success.

It is not clear what his appointment entails and where it leaves his relationship with the FDC.
