The National Unity Platform (NUP) calls upon Government to honour Oulanyah through fixing the health care system in Uganda .

While addressing journalists at the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kamwokya on April 5, NUP spokesperson Hon Joel Ssenyonyi and the Nakawa West MP , describes Oulanyah as a man who always catered for the health system of his people .

Oulanyah in 2018 while deputy speaker advocated for more funds for about 9 districts in Northern Uganda that were affected by the nodding disease syndrome.

This was after the 9 districts had initially been given about 70 million Ugandan Shillings which wouldn’t even solve the problem partly .

But through the deceased Speaker he was able to advocate about 1.3billion

Nodding disease is a disease which emerged in Sudan in the 1960s.It is a mentally and physically disabling disease that only affects children, typically between the ages of 5 and 15.

Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah at the time of his death was the current Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda and was also the member of Parliament for Omoro County.

Oulanyah died on March 20 in Seattle , United States of America (USA) where he had been rushed in early February for treatment after a long term illness.

Oulanyah’s body today lies in Parliament where a vigil will take place at night .
