Geoffrey Kikama Bwambale, the Rukoki Gombolola Internal Security Officer- GISO in Kasese district is in police custody in connection with the death of his brother. He was re-arrested on the orders of Kasese Resident State Attorney for the alleged murder of Augustine Kikama,45, on February 21, 2020.

Residents found Kikama’s body dumped in Kigoro River, a few meters from his home. Bwambale, 49, was briefly arrested and released under unclear circumstances. Ismail Kaawo, the Rwenzori East police spokesperson, says the Resident State Attorney has sanctioned the suspect’s file and he will soon appear in court to answer the charges.

Kaawo told our reporter that the case dragged on for this long because the same suspect was also a complainant in cases of malicious damage and arson after residents attacked his home shortly after the death of his brother.

A mob stormed Bwambale’s home and destroyed properties worth millions of Shillings accusing him of masterminding his brother’s murder.

Residents have welcomed Bwambale’s arrest, arguing that it had been delayed by some elements in security who have been protecting him for all this long. Jemima Biira Kikama, the widow of Kikama, said that she was pleased by this arrest after seeking justice for the last two years in vain.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the two brothers were feuding over land left behind by their father Yunusu Mumbere, who died in 2012. At the time of his death, Kikama was the acting NRM registrar for Kigoro Parish in Rukoki Sub County.  The suspect is expected to appear in court later today.
