Kira road police are holding Deborah Apolot, a resident of Kisasi Kanisa zone in Kampala for allegedly assaulting her 10-year-old son, Mark Omiat.

In a brief statement, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, says that police swung in action when a video showing Apolot assaulting the minor went viral on social media.

“The arrest was carried out yesterday (Monday) at about 9 pm,” he said in a statement.

According to Owoyesigyire, Apolot alleges that she gave the minor Ug.Sh 5000 on Monday morning to buy groceries at the nearby shop but he didn’t return home.

She reportedly looked for the minor and found him and took him home.

According to Owoyesigyire, Apolot admitted to beating her son as a punishment for misbehaviour.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and he is receiving treatment,” he said. Adding “the victim’s mother will be charged with child torture.”

He promised to avail more details as soon as possible.
