Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 26-year-old Daniel Lubaga, a warder at Masafu prison in Masafu sub-county in Busia district.

Inmates found the deceased’s lying in a septic tank behind Masafu prison offices on Sunday.  The late Lubega hailed from Kiralamba village in Nakasongola district.

Preliminary police findings show that the deceased’s body has some wounds on the neck. His wife, Fiona Nakabira, says that her husband invited her to visit him on Saturday and they spent the entire day talking on the phone.

She explains that upon her arrival on Saturday, she did not find him and his phones were switched off. According to Nakabira, she immediately informed Lubega’s boss who ordered inmates to empty the septic tank where they found the body.

The deceased’s brother, Ahamada Ssenyonga, says that he got the information from his friends about the death of his sibling. He says upon arrival at Masafu prison, they were not allowed to access the scene until police retrieved the body.

Timothy Pido, the officer in charge of the Crime Investigation Department-CID at Busia central police station, says that investigations surrounding Lubega’s death have already started.  The deceased’s body is lying in the mortuary at Masafu General Hospital pending an autopsy.
