The transportation of the much needed humanitarian aid to Tigray is being hindered by the closure of Abala road in Afar region by militants of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), government says.

Government last week declared an indefinite humanitarian truce to facilitate the free flow of humanitarian aid into Tigray region, an area that has been embedded in an armed conflict for about two years now.

Ethiopia Government Communication Services (GCS), in a statement on Tuesday disclosed that closure of Abala road in Afar by TPLF militants has hindered transportation of food aid by WFP to people in need in Tigray.

Government underscores that since the declaration of the humanitarian truce, they have taken a variety of actions including allowing a full week of air transportation to several international humanitarian organizations was one of the initiatives.

“Accordingly, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, money, and nutritional supplements began to be transported by air as much as possible, the statement said.

“In addition, the government has also permitted other humanitarian aid to be transported by air. In this regard, the government has taken immediate action, unless there is a lack of capacity or a delay in the operation of the charities.”

To expand access to humanitarian assistance, the World Food Program (WFP) has been allowed to transport 43 trucks of food aid to people in need in the Tigray region via Abella Road. Of this, 20 trucks are stationed in Semera town of Afar region carrying humanitarian aid.

“The Ethiopian government has been using all available means to rescue its citizens in the Tigray region but has not been able to secure the cooperation of the other party. The 43-truck food aid authorized to the World Food Program (WFP) had not been transported to the Tigray region due to the closure of Abala Road by TPLF militants,” notes the government of Ethiopia.

“The Government of Ethiopia reaffirms its commitment to work closely with stakeholders to ensure the full delivery of humanitarian assistance to those in need. Thus, the government of Ethiopia urges Tigray militants to refrain from citing various reasons and to disseminate misleading information and do their part to facilitate the supply of aid,” adds the statement.

Analysts says that the deliberate continued starvation of the people of Tigray by TPLF is desire of the designated terrorist group since they are convinced that it will attract sympathy from the international community and as well force a negotiated power sharing with the democratically elected Ethiopian government.

This the reason they rejected the government declared Unilateral Ceasefire in June to stop hostilities to allow farming and access of humanitarian aid in Tigray, but instead opted to fight-on as they killed people, raped women and girls, starved innocent Ethiopians in the area, destroyed property, displaced thousands doubled the use of children in battlefield.

But in a statement, by GCS, government has reiterated the call for TPLF to desist from acts of aggression and withdraw from areas they have occupied in neighboring Regions.

“The government calls on the international community to put pressure on the Tigray militants to withdraw from the Afar and Amhara districts, where they are being held hostage, and to comply with their commitments to ceasefire, GCS noted.

The Ethiopian government hopes that all stakeholders in the Tigray region will work together to facilitate the delivery of aid and ensure a stable life for all, GCS underscored.

According to analysts, TPLF has no will to end the conflict in Tigray, but instead want to use it as an opportunity to negotiate their way back to state power. TPLF has refused to admit that Ethiopians want a chance to move forward.

They say: “The group had its 27 years in power and the people are not willing to return to the widespread political repressions, economic as well as social marginalization witnessed during their rule.”

After 27 years of its dominance in the nation, TPLF insists Ethiopia will fall apart if “we do not lead it”. Its leaders have insisted on terrorizing civilian communities by saying “if we don’t hold the supremacy, and if it’s necessary, we could go down to hell to disintegrate Ethiopia.”

  2. Hmmm! What an ignorant fake journalist who dares to blame the victims. Try to act as objective as possible if you would like to be taken seriously. TPLF would never do anything to harm its people

  3. There’s a reason why the west laughs at you Africans. You literally wrote out an entire lie to save the image of a genocidal Ethiopian government. You people are definitely the ones that made these shithole African countries. May you rot in hell for lying on these vicitms. There’s 14 ways to get food into tigray. The border to Sudan is blocked by Ethiopian and Eritrean animals and yet you’re claiming the evil monkey administration of ethiopia is trying to save its Tigrayan population? May you suffer for eternity for writing off the rapes and murder of children and women. You think you can write off the murder of Europeans in Tigray by that same sick ethiopian government? Sick peace of shit.

  4. Africa is sterile: its elite is morally corrupted ethically shameless. African journalists are typical examples of this sterile elite—Shame for humanity. Dear Kunual — as a journalist you could have dug deep to find out the reason of this 18months long shit crisis before you judge who is determined to starve the ppl of Tigray. You come from no where to accuse TPLF is starving to the very ppl it struggled 5decades long. You sold your souls to disinform the wider public.
