President Yoweri Museveni has Friday afternoon arrived at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi in Kyankwanzi district where he is expected to address the country’s newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners.

Today marks the end of their week long orientation where they evaluated performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassies and Missions and also equipped to build capacities to excel in the fields of economic and commercial diplomacy.

The Ambassadors who prior to the retreat traveled to different parts of the country to expose and ideologically align them towards the country’s industrial and economic initiatives as a means to achieving social economic transformation.

The Head of State is expected among others to remind them of the country’s national interest along which their efforts will be directed.

The Ambassadors will will after this week long orientation head to their various missions abroad.

On Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs,Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, addressed them from the same place and stressed that the program for this year’s Ambassadors retreat, which saw them visit industrial parks in many Cities upcountry, was intentionally designed to equip them to become efficient and effective representatives of the country abroad.

He gave a detailed account of the key priorities that the Ambassadors should focus on, with special focus on the Peace and Security of the nation, Economic and Commercial Diplomacy, that will attract Foreign Direct Investment, seek markets for Ugandan products, harness the Diaspora for national development and to attract tourists to the country.
